“A masterclass in listening, achieving balance, and shaping polyphony not just expressively, but with purpose.”
I had a wonderful time working with The Renaissance Singers at the end of April, delving into Renaissance gems from around Europe all linked to Jesus’ mother, Mary, including works by Byrd, Palestrina and Aleotti.
Mary has long served as a conduit for the divine, inspiring composers for centuries. Some composers have responded with grand, multi-part works that glorify her, while others have crafted intricate pieces that honour her purity. Some explore her humanity, inviting listeners to share in her suffering and devotion. Mary bridges the celestial and the earthly, much like the most powerful sacred music does.
