New Piece: Viri Galilæi premieres at Wells Cathedral

My new piece, Viri Galilæi, was premiered on Sunday 25 May 2025 Wells Cathedral by the Cathedral Choir and Chamber Choir under the direction of Timothy Parsons, as part of the Sounds of Wells Festival.

It was such a treat to be back in this special place, and I’m looking forward to working with them further, as I commence a new role as President of Cathedral Commissions. This exciting new role will involve me working with a number of composers to support in the creation of new works for the Cathedral in the coming years, further enriching the choral tradition and contributing to the repertoire available to choirs around the world.

Text

From Acts 1:11 & Psalm 46:2

Viri Galilæi, quid admiramini aspicientes in cælum?
Alleluia.
Quemadmodum vidistis eum ascendentem in cælum, ita veniet,
alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Omnes gentes plaudite manibus:
jubilate Deo in voce exsultationis.

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper:
et in sæcula sæculorum. Amen.

Ye men of Galilee, why wonder you, looking up to heaven?
Alleluia.
He shall so come as you have seen him going up into heaven,
alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

O clap your hands, all ye nations;
shout unto God, with the voice of exultation.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, both now and always:
and for an age of ages. Amen.
