BBC Singers announce new Chief Conductor

I’m thrilled to be stepping into the role of Chief Conductor of the BBC Singers — it is both a dream and an honour. I will succeed Sofi Jeannin in autumn 2026, who has led the group with great success since 2018.

With their rich history and spirit of innovation, the BBC Singers represent so much of what excites me about music-making. I can’t wait to get started—exploring bold sounds and ideas, and building on their tradition of excellence. There’s so much to discover together, and I’m excited to help shape the next chapter.

Jonathan Manners, Director of the BBC Singers says:

“Everyone involved with the BBC Singers is thrilled that Owain Park will be the group’s Chief Conductor. Owain is perfectly placed to continue the remarkable work of Sofi Jeannin as the BBC Singers continue to make music that is exciting, relevant and impactful – his versatility matches that of the group, and we have enjoyed our previous work together on concerts and recordings, as well as in our ambitious education programme, which remains at the heart of our work.

“Owain has had a relationship with the BBC Singers since he graduated from university, and this appointment is testament to our pivotal investment in nurturing relationships with musicians as they begin their professional careers. He takes over the role at an exciting time, and much of that is due to the outstanding contribution by Sofi Jeannin, who we look forward to continuing working with in the years to come.”

My next concert with the BBC Singers will be on Thursday 9 October at Milton Court for a concert with acclaimed Nigerian-Scottish trumpeter, Aaron Azunda Akugbo.

About the BBC Singers
The BBC Singers has held a unique place at the heart of the UK’s choral scene since 1924, collaborating with many of the world’s leading composers, conductors and soloists. Awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society’s prestigious Ensemble Award in March 2024, they celebrated their 100 year anniversary in the 24/25 season. Based at the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios, the choir records music for broadcast on BBC Radio 3, alongside work for other network radio, television and commercial release. It also presents an annual series of concerts at Milton Court Concert Hall, performs free concerts in London and appears at major festivals in the UK and abroad. As part the BBC’s plan to open its new BBC Music Studios at East Bank, the BBC Singers work closely with the local community through a programme of local music education, outreach events and live performances.
